A high-quality professional service
Tuition is offered on the church organ from beginner to diploma level. I have a wealth of experience as an organ teacher, teaching pupils of all ages and abilities at a whole range of levels. I have also worked as principal tutor to diocesan organ scholarship holders, training individuals to become church organists to serve churches in the future.
A grounding in the major disciplines of church organ playing
In addition to tuition to enable general musical competence and solo playing, I also provide tuition and guidance in other skills crucial to a church organist, such as the accompaniment of choirs, hymn playing, understanding and managing the instrument, and being aware of liturgy and the organist's role in the church service.
Thorough preparation for exams
My pupil exam record is excellent and includes many distinctions at all levels. I place great importance on learning things thoroughly at an appropriate pace to ensure maximum understanding and enjoyment, as well as promoting a solid technique and insight into music.
Integrated theory of music tuition
For students who have not studied music before, I include theory of music tuition as an integral part of learning to play an instrument.
Targeted tuition for pianists who wish to learn the organ
Contrary to popular belief, it is in no way essential to be able to play the piano before starting to play the organ. However, as a diploma-qualified pianist, I am able to offer special targeted tuition for those pupils who wish to transfer some of their piano skills to the organ. Many of my pupils are also pianists who have enjoyed much success in becoming organists.
I have also designed and presented courses on learning the organ to large groups across a wide ability range, as well as carrying out demonstrations of instruments to visiting organist groups and societies.
